Diversity and Inclusivity
Greetings!
“We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.”
(Maya Angelou)
We whole-heartedly agree! As Director of Diversity and Diversity Coordinator, we work closely with Hamlin students, parents, teachers, and board members to help foster a community where every member is respected and included. Our work spans the spectrum of creating multicultural curriculum to be used in classrooms, facilitating adult conversations and workshops, advising student groups, organizing school-wide educational programs, as well as providing resources to any constituent looking to make effective progress in the area of diversity. We are a vibrant community that embraces so many perspectives, it is our role to help make sure that everyone at Hamlin feels that they are a valued and celebrated member of our school.
In our work, we emphasize the need for open and honest communication. In an effort to facilitate this, we consistently refer to "The Norms of Courageous Conversation" shared with us by Glen Singleton from Beyond Diversity. They are:
- Stay Engaged.
- Speak Your Truth.
- Experience Discomfort
- Expect and Accept Non-Closure.
We also always add “Assume Good Will” to this list.
It is our pleasure to share our commitment and passion around issues of diversity with the girls of the Hamlin School, as well as the adults.
Please feel free to contact us!
