Working at Hamlin
The standards for professionalism and collegiality are high at Hamlin. We seek teachers who are intelligent, kind-hearted, experienced, organized, flexible, creative, and good-humored. Most teachers new to the school have previous head-teacher experience. Independent school or girls’ school experience is a plus. Every teacher is expected to take on an active role in school life outside of the classroom.
A hallmark of the teaching experience at Hamlin is the school’s commitment to professional growth. We feel strongly that students learn when the adults in the community model the excitement and energy around adult learning as well. To that end, Hamlin dedicates significant funds to professional development each year. Examples of recent professional development conferences and programs attended by Hamlin faculty include programs on differentiated instruction, brain research, learning differences, technology, cooperative learning, and service learning; national conferences on diversity and multiculturalism, sports, health and wellness, mathematics, reading and writing, French, and global education. Hamlin houses the Bay Area Teacher Collaborative, a non-profit organization founded to provide high quality and cost effective professional development in the Bay Area.
The Hamlin School is an equal opportunity employer.
