From the PA President

Jane Gaito
PA President
Dear Hamlin Families,

Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year! As the President of the Hamlin Parents’ Association, I look forward to a very special milestone this year: the 150th anniversary of the Hamlin School. Generations of faculty, staff and families have been inspired by the legacy of Sarah Dix Hamlin to provide extraordinary opportunities for girls for 150 years. We have so much to celebrate within our community, and this theme will be an integral part of everything we do as parents at Hamlin this year.

Every parent is automatically a member of the Hamlin Parents’ Association. The PA has two functions. The first is to continue to strengthen our phenomenal community in an environment of fun, friendship and inclusivity centered on our children’s shared Hamlin experience. The second is to raise critical funds to support academic excellence during every year of our girls’ journey through Hamlin.
The Parents’ Association will kick off the year with a Back to School Luau on Sunday, September 8th. All families – parents, students and siblings -- are invited to an afternoon of food, fun and music as we reconnect with old friends and welcome new families to Hamlin. We will continue our celebration of Hamlin on Friday, September 27th with the first of our parent social events: the Sixth Annual Hamlin School Golf Classic. This fantastic event begins with a fun-filled day of golf followed by a not-to-be-missed casual evening of BBQ, dancing and festivities for golfers and non-golfers alike! The fall events lineup will come to a close on December 6th and 7th with Winterfest, a grand celebration of the Hamlin community which includes an extensive array of activities for alumnae, children and parents.

A fun schedule of events is also planned for 2014. On January 25th, our entire school will come together for Hamlin Harvest, in which we celebrate Hamlin’s service to our San Francisco community by preparing a huge meal for residents of the Hamilton Family Center. The spring will be sprinkled with additional 150th anniversary celebrations, culminating in our fabulous Hamlin Gala in March.

The best way to connect with the Hamlin community is to volunteer alongside your fellow Hamlin parents! We welcome your enthusiasm, skills and time! Please visit the Parents’ Association section of the Hamlin website to learn more about the PA. You can find a list of our major events as well as our community committees including the Hamlin Diversity Council, Lend-A-Hand, Eco-Council, Library Committee, Lunch Coordinators, S.P.E.A.K. committee and many more. The Parents’ Association welcomes your participation, so join the fun! Please fill out a volunteer form to let us know where your interests lie, and we will reach out to you to suggest ways in which you can get involved. Be sure to keep an eye out for ongoing volunteer opportunities as well as important news and parent resources on the Parents section of the website.

Wishing you a happy fall and a wonderful 2013-2014 school year,

Jane Gaito
