The best part about playing on a Hamlin sports team is you suddenly have another family, another group of friends. Hamlin sports give you the opportunity to meet girls in other grades . . . and become a better athlete. I personally have made some of my fondest memories of Hamlin through the sports program.8th grade student Class of 2013

Hamlin After School Sports Program Philosophy

At Hamlin, we want our girls to be strong and healthy - in mind, body, and spirit.  Our After-School Sports Program plays a critical role in fostering these important aspects of growth. As the girls develop their athletic skills, they also learn about mental and physical strength, cardiovascular fitness, their bodies, and the benefits of good health and nutrition. Furthermore, they experience the power of working as a team toward the achievement of a common goal. Discussions, direct instruction, targeted skill work, scrimmages, and competitive game situations are all vital teaching and learning components of our athletics program, ones that are designed to help girls gain confidence and develop their self-esteem, while also learning the value of good sportsmanship and the meaning of teamwork. It is our belief that the experience of participation in team sports, regardless of the team’s competitive record, will build character and aid in the personal growth and maturation of the students. Finally, we deeply value the camaraderie, joy, sense of community, and school spirit that result from working together with girls from different grade levels as they represent Hamlin on the court and/or playing field.

A key premise of the Hamlin mission statement is to “inspire girls to find the best in themselves . . .” and to prepare them “to contribute with energy and distinction to the world around them.” We believe in teaching girls the importance of trying hard and doing one’s personal best; this belief sets the tone for all practices and athletic competitions. At Hamlin, there is a place for every type of athlete: beginners who are looking to have fun and explore something new, and more experienced athletes who want to compete with vigor. While the levels of commitment and competition are greatest at the varsity level, all Hamlin coaches are united in their quest to inspire their players to stretch themselves each day by giving their full effort and playing with enthusiasm.
