Spring Session:
Core Drawing – Mondays 2:00 – 3:15 p.m., $225
Core Drawing is a nine week course that engages in a strong foundation in materials and techniques with equal emphasis on personal expression and skill. Each lesson will present a new drawing technique which will be implemented by teacher demonstrations, in class observational studies, studying other artists' work, small homework assignments, and handouts.~All levels of Core Drawing emphasize the importance of life drawing. Courses will build upon one another to create an individualized approach from which to observe, describe, and compose objects in space through the study of line, value, tone and texture. The material covered in class will be created to nurture and enrich the student's individual skill as well as the overall class level.~By the end of the course students will have the tool set to approach drawing as a mode of seeing, and gain a better understanding, knowledge, and ability to draw from observation. Student who participated in the winter session are welcome to continue with this class in the spring.
Gymnastics – Wednesdays 2:00 – 3:15 p.m., $250
Gymnastics is the Fitness
in Transit signature class! This class focuses on building body-confidence,
coordination, motor skills, strength, and flexibility as well as a love of
moving that endures. The girls begin with games and activities that emphasize
flexibility and balance, and then move on to tumbling and instruction on various

Shake,
Wiggle, & Roll – Wednesdays 2:00 – 3:15 p.m., $250
Carol Butler has been
teaching dance and movement at The Hamlin School for seventeen years. Shake,
Wiggle and Roll is expressly designed for Kindergartners. The class blends
creative movement with dance fundamentals and tumbling to further balance,
coordination and the love of movement. Ms. Butler uses props (scarves,
balloons, canes, fans, feathers, etc.); games, singing and music to keep the
girls engaged and involved throughout this high-energy dance class.
Little
Hammers – Thursdays 2:00-3:15 - $250
This popular carpentry
class for girls returns for another year at Hamlin. Moira McNamara emphasizes
the safe use of hand tools while girls have fun working together on woodworking
projects. They gain experience and confidence by using a wide variety of
carpentry tools. Girls use applied mathematics, abstract reasoning and fine
motor skills to visualize, plan and build projects.

Jewelry Designers – Grades 1-4 – Mondays 3:15 – 4:30 p.m., $225
Create customized, stylish jewelry ready for you and your friends to wear! ~Become your own jewelry designer, where you can choose from a huge selection of hot colors, textures, and unique beads to make one-of-a kind pieces. ~Our classes are designed not only to be fun, but to let you in on some of the most popular jewelry making techniques, such as wire wrapping, resin, beautiful beading, copper etching and stamping and dapping! We use only the highest quality findings, fresh water pearls, and Czech glass beads to create one piece of new jewelry per class. ~Our highly trained and fun instructors create a relaxed, encouraging environment all children will love.~At Dragonfly Designs, it is our mission to offer exceptional handmade jewelry and the opportunity to create it, while promoting social justice, personal style, and fun.

Origami – Grades 1-4 – Tuesdays 3:15 – 4:30 p.m., $250
Artists have been folding paper into unique sculptures since the 6th century! Students in this class will develop concentration as they learn the precise and fun techniques of origami. Mrs. Dempsey, the former Hub teacher, creates a warm and loving environment for students to explore this exciting art process. Beginners and experienced students are welcome to attend.
Squash – Grades 3-4 – Tuesdays 3:15 – 5:00 p.m. and Thursdays 3:15 – 5:15 p.m., $350
Squash is a fast paced and fun! Students develop balance, hand eye coordination, and quickness, plus it is great exercise. Students will meet at Hub after school, and take a private bus for lessons at the University Club. PLEASE NOTE: This class will run from March 19th through May 9th and pick up will be at the University Club.
Yoga & Movement – Grades 1-4 – Tuesdays 3:15 – 4:30 p.m., $250
This yoga class is specifically developed and modified for 6 to 10 year olds by It's Yoga, Kids instructor Jacque, and is taught using the method of the It's Yoga Vinyasa system. This is a fun and dynamic system of practicing poses joined together by breath and flowing movement. These engaging classes explore yoga poses, cooperative games, breathing and relaxation exercises and convey lessons in self-expression, body-awareness, and social skills. Non-competitive and fun, students develop strength, flexibility, concentration and confidence.
Spring Session:
Ceramics – Grades 1-4 – Wednesdays 3:15 – 4:30 p.m., $250
LS Art Associate Courtney Stock will lead girls through introductory and intermediate clay work. The classes will introduce basic clay techniques for beginners, as well as provide continuing and advanced instruction for girls with prior experience. The class size and curriculum is structured so that girls of different ages and/or abilities may work alongside each other in class. Courtney Stock studied ceramics as a Post-Baccalaureate at San Francisco Art Institute. She received a BA in Visual Art from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME. A new member of the Hamlin community, Courtney has had the pleasure of teaching a middle school ceramics elective and working with Andy Witrack in the lower school art studio.

Dance teacher and choreographer, Carol Butler, leads this non-stop, high-energy dance class. Each week the girls learn and build on a jazz/hip hop routine as well as choreographing their own movement combinations. Ms. Butler brings different props such as scarves, pom-poms, parasols etc. to stimulate creativity. The culminating activity is a dance performance for families and friends.
Theater Production Workshop – Grades 1-4 – Wednesdays 3:15 – 4:30 p.m., $475

Chess Club – Grades 1-4 – Thursdays 3:15 – 4:30 p.m., $250
Chess is fun, and can be learned easily and quickly! The class emphasizes the enjoyment of the game, with a serious eye toward the student's improvement.~ This class will be for beginner and intermediate players.~ Learning and playing the game of chess encourages the student to be creative and flexible, and to persevere.~ It develops critical thinking and concentration, all while having fun!~~ The Berkeley Chess School, a non-profit, has given chess classes to Bay Area children since 1982.~ Our founder and President is Elizabeth Shaughnessy, former Irish Women's Chess Champion. Instructor John Morcos is a previous winner of the National Junior Chess Congress and was a student at the invitation-only American Chess School for top U.S. Juniors. He also made the Junior All-American Chess Team two years in a row. ~John is a graduate of Dominican College.

Sew Awesome! – Grades 1-4 – Thursdays 3:15 – 4:30 p.m., $250
Want to be creative, learn to hand sew, design and make your own sewing projects, and have fun? Join Turning Heads Sewing & Fashion instructors Crystal and Nancy in making fleece hand warmers, designing and constructing a zippered pouch, or repurposing a pair of jean shorts into a tote bag. It's easy and sew fun! Turning Heads lead instructor Crystal Hermann graduated from California College of the Arts in fashion design. She spends her time designing and creating garments and accessories and loves teaching young people art, sewing and crafting at a variety of elementary schools all over San Francisco. Turning Heads assistant Nancy Maldonado attends San Francisco State University, loves and lives for sewing and crafting and sells her own line of T-shirts, bags and jewelry. Student who took the class in the Fall or Winter who would like to continue are welcome to do so and will be given more advanced projects to work on.
