Admission Process

Applying to Kindergarten

Any child applying to Hamlin for Kindergarten for the 2022-2023 school year must be five years old by August 1, 2022.
 

Steps in the Admission Process:

The first step in the admission process is to complete and submit an Online Inquiry Form. If you choose to apply to The Hamlin School for the 2022-2023 academic year, please note that the application process will be completed online.


Weekday Parent/Guardian Tour (required)
 
Zoom Into Hamlin is our weekday tours re-imagined. Registration is through Ravenna. Information will be emailed to you after you submit the inquiry form.


Learn About Hamlin 
(attendance strongly encouraged) will provide a deeper window into our program and community. We will host two different virtual Learn About Hamlin events this fall, each with a specific focus. A detailed schedule for each Learn About Hamlin event will be provided in October.
  • Learn About Hamlin I: Curriculum and Teaching will be on Saturday, October 23, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
  • Learn About Hamlin II: Culture and Community will be on Saturday, November 6, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Kindergarten Screening (required)

Along with many peer schools in our independent school consortium, Hamlin will accept a common set of parent/guardian recorded videos of our applicants conducting specific activities. Directions will be mailed to you starting on December 1, 2021.

Kindergarten Visit to Hamlin
(required)
In lieu of an actual visit to Hamlin, we are creating a virtual experience for our Kindergarten applicants for the 2021-2022 season. Schedule your daughter’s virtual visit through Ravenna after you have submitted your application. 


A Common Confidential Student Evaluation Form
(required) must be completed by your daughter’s current school. Please designate the teacher who will complete the electronic form by indicating the teacher’s name and email address on Ravenna. The evaluation form will be emailed directly to the teacher to complete and send back no later than Wednesday, December 15, 2021. Hamlin prefers to receive the evaluation forms electronically, but we are including a pdf of the form in case you need it. The paper copy must first be signed by you, then completed by your daughter's preschool teacher, and returned directly to Hamlin by her preschool. 


Parent/
Guardian Interview (required) will be conducted from late October through January via Zoom. Starting Monday, September 20, 2021, you may contact Lisa Lau Aquino ’81 at aquino@hamlin.org to schedule an appointment.


Completed application and $100 fee are due Wednesday, December 15, 2021.


Families facing financial constraints may request an application fee adjustment by calling Lisa Lau Aquino ’81 at 415.674.5400.

The Hamlin School, along with many San Francisco K-8 independent schools, will mail admission decision letters on March 16, 2022. Electronic notification will be sent on March 17, 2022 at noon.
