Applying to Grades 2-7

Spring and Fall Tours for 2019-2020 School Year

Registration for Spring tours will begin on Wednesday, April 4, 2018.

Spring tours will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 8:30-10:30 a.m. and Wednesday, May 2,
8:30-10:30 a.m. at 2129 Vallejo Street. These tours are a “sneak preview” for the 2019-2020 school year.

Fall tours for the 2019-2020 school year will begin in October 2018.

Any child applying to Hamlin for Grades 1-4 for the 2019-2020 school year must have been five years old by August 1 of her Kindergarten year.

Steps in the Admission Process:

Complete and submit an Online Inquiry Form to schedule a weekday tour, RSVP for Learn About Hamlin and to request admission materials. If you choose to apply to The Hamlin School for the 2018-2019 academic year, please note that the application process will be completed online.

Learn About Hamlin will be on Saturday, October 21, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. at 2120 Broadway Street; complimentary valet parking will be provided. Our program, designed for adults only, will include an overview of the K-8 curriculum and an opportunity to meet the Hamlin faculty and administration. Attendance is highly encouraged. 

Weekday parent tours (Required) offer a view of our school in action. All weekday tours begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. and end at 10:30 a.m. Entry only at 2129 Vallejo Street and please allow time for parking and transportation. Spanish and Mandarin tours are available upon request.

Parent/Guardian Interviews (Required) will be conducted from late October through January. Starting Monday, September 18, 2017, you may contact Lisa Lau Aquino ’81 at to schedule an appointment.

Hamlin Visit for Applicants to Grades 2-5 and Grade 7 (Required): Your daughter will visit Hamlin during a school day in January or February 2018. This appointment should be made online after submitting the online application. Additionally, Grade 5 applicants will come for a Group Screening Session. This appointment should also be made online after submitting the online application.

For Applicants to Grades 6 (Required): Your daughter will come to Hamlin for a Screening Session. We will have small group as well as individual activities. She will also join us for a Group Visit to meet current Hamlin students and teachers. These appointments should be made online after submitting the online application.

Common Confidential Student Evaluation Forms (Required):

Applicants to Grades 2-7: Two copies of the Common Confidential Student Evaluation Form must be completed by your daughter’s current school. Please designate the 2 teachers who will complete the electronic forms by indicating each teacher’s name and email address using the Hamlin online application portal. The evaluation forms will be emailed directly to the teachers to complete and send back no later than January 20, 2018. Hamlin prefers to receive the evaluation forms electronically, but we are including a pdf of the form in case you need it. The paper copy must first be signed by you, then completed by your daughter's current teacher, and returned directly to Hamlin by her current school.

Applicants for Grades 2-7: The Hamlin Records Release Form is sent electronically to your daughter’s current school. Please follow the online application portal directions for delegating the school representative who should receive this form. All documents are due no later than January 20, 2018. 

Applicants to Grades 5-7 are required to take one of the following standardized assessments:
  • ISEE - Please have the results sent directly to The Hamlin School (use code #053040). To register for the ISEE, please visit their website.
  • SSAT - Please have the results sent directly to The Hamlin School (use code #3664). To register for the SSAT, please visit their website.
Please be sure your daughter takes one of these exams no later than February 10, 2018.

Completed online application and $100 application fee are due by January 3, 2018.

Families facing financial constraints may request an application fee adjustment by calling Lisa Lau Aquino’81 at 415-674-5400.

San Francisco K-8 independent schools will mail admission decision letters on March 14, 2018. Electronic notification will be sent on March 15, 2018 at noon.
